My ongoing series “The Intersection of Innovation and ___” continued yesterday. (Previous discussions can be found here.)
It was my great pleasure to welcome back a friend and woman I admire, Bethanne Patrick: author, journalist and founder of the awesome series #FridayReads.
When Bethanne and I spoke a few months ago we talked broadly about the state of publishing, what has changed, what hasn’t, and what writers (and readers) need to do–and know–to be as tuned in as possible to the ever-shifting literary landscape.
This time we focused on the very thorny, incredibly complicated issue of compensation. What it means, who it affects, why some people get paid, others don’t and some of the ways the very idea of payment is no longer a cut and dried notion, if it ever was.
