Two From Pat Martino for a Rainy Spring Day

Two perfect songs for a rainy day (two perfect songs, period) from the great Pat Martino’s first album as a leader, El Hombre.

This is a fantastic album (deep, soulful organ grooves from Trudy Pitts, propulsive when appropriate drumming from Mitch Fine and Martino establishing himself as a young master who is equally comfortable with quicksilver runs and laid back grooves). More on Martino, who made music anyone can/should appreciate, in the near future.

(Not) Sucking in the ’70s: Jazz, Volume One

Yes, sometimes you can judge an album by its cover. Especially if it Jazz. Most especially if it was from the ’70s (that Sun Ra cover is from the ’60s, but nevertheless…)

A lot of people don’t understand, or appreciate Jazz.

A lot of people don’t understand, or appreciate, the ’70s…

We cannot help these people.
