Hear hear Sean. Insanity is running rampant in Richmond. Let's hope this ultrasound bill dies a quiet death and takes its cousin, the bill that declares the "personhood" of two or more cells in a woman's body, with it. It all gives me the blues.

Mr Caddell was my history Teacher so many years ago at Craigshill High School in Livingston, I am 46 now, He made history interesting and alive.he was the person who encouraged me to go to uni,not for history but for languages as he said i had a natural talent for foreign languages.
Just before I left school he was going on an exchange teacher programme to America.
That was the last conversation that I had with him,sad to read in todays newspaper that he had passed away last year but nice to see that his pupils have brought out a tie in his honour. He made an impression on these pupils just as he did on the pupils at craigshill High 30 years ago.

Hi, just stumbled upon this blog whilst looking for something else. Mr Caddell was my history teacher in Livingston back in the 80s. And an absolutely top bloke he was too!

Your pictures are fascinating as I remember him with not quite such long hair and it was also considerably darker! As was his beard: we used to nickname him Jesus.

Really sorry to hear of his passing as he had a big impact on my life as a student.

Thanks--A fitting tribute to an iconic album, and one that probably forms part of the soundtrack to the teenaged years of a whole lot of us (yes I'm that old....). Jethro Tull was *my* band in high school, I must have seen them about six times. I agree wholeheartedly about Anderson's skill with lyrics, he has very few equals. And the remix (Swilson has been trying to make it very clear that he did NOT remaster the abum, he *remixed* it, and these are not the same thing) is so absolutely spectacular it's like a whole new album.

I agree about the additional material as well, it really does add a whole new dimension. Indeed I find myself playing "Life is a Long Song" a lot, so beautiful and crystalline now.

Indeed, and I'll maintain that it was their last great and influential album. Subsequent ones had their moments , and like the guy said their tedious quarter hours,
but Townshend's best work tended to end up on his solo records and following Moon's death they became little more than an oldies act, something they sadly remain to this day.

Glad you guys dug it. I agree that even though so many people (in and outside the industry) seem to love 'Quadrophenia', it somehow is not nearly as universally worshipped as it should be. I (really) try to avoid all cliches when I write, but this is one of the very few albums that not only still sounds fresh and vital, but actually manages to *excite* me when I listen to it. It's miraculous in its way.

Great article Sean. You articulated what I have always felt about this album. I was 16 (Jimmy's age) when I discovered it, and have not stop listening since. It never has garnered the recognition it deserved.
